Sanctuary Campus of Bucks County

AI-generated images shown here are conceptual renderings intended to illustrate our vision for the future Sanctuary Campus.
ACF’s flagship project is the creation of the Sanctuary Campus of Bucks County (Sanctuary Campus), a permanently preserved 10+ acre farm campus. Property acquisition will focus on central to northern Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

10+ Acre Preserved Land Campus
The Sanctuary Campus of Bucks County is a specialized infrastructure designed to operationalize the One Health framework. By permanently preserving 10+ acres, we secure a stable environment for long-term ecological stewardship and habitat protection. The integration of clinical medical spaces with sanctuary pastures allows us to provide immediate animal relief while simultaneously serving as an educational hub for the community. Every element—from walking paths to research spaces—is intentionally designed to foster the human-animal-environmental bond, demonstrating that integrated care leads to a more resilient society.

Key Campus Components
The Sanctuary Campus will operate as a vibrant, community-centered resource space focused on four key pillars:

1. Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic
  • Exclusively serves registered and vetted nonprofit animal rescue organizations.
    • Additional case-by-case veterinary care provided to low-income pet owners in need, either through pet care grants paid directly to local veterinarians or through veterinary care provided directly by ACF.
  • Focus on high-volume, high-quality medical, surgical, and dental care that directly enhances adoptability and well-being.
  • Hosts volunteer veterinary specialists for pro bono advanced procedures.
  • Training site for veterinary students, veterinary technicians, and pre-vet students.
  • Provides shadowing and volunteer opportunities for high school students interested in pursuing careers in veterinary medicine.

2. Rescue Collaboration Center
  • Hosts adoption fairs, meet-and-greets, and rescue events where adopters can interact with animals in a low-stress, natural setting, which leads to better placement success.
  • Serves as a central hub for networking and resource sharing to reduce marketing and rental costs for every participating rescue.
  • Hosting certified animal behaviorists to teach classes to help community members manage high-needs animals, and reducing "return-to-rescue" rates.
  • Controlled environments for introductions and playgroups, which are essential for determining a rescue animal's temperament before adoption.
  • The center can act as a data hub to track local rescue trends (e.g., a sudden spike in a specific breed or a local disease outbreak), allowing for a coordinated One Health response.

3. Animal Sanctuary
  • Provides lifelong, high-standard medical and social care for farm animals transitioning to a dignified life for those deemed “unadoptable.”
  • Utilizes the sanctuary as a site for observation and research, allowing veterinary students and ecologists to study animal behavior and the symbiotic relationship between farm animals and land health.
  • Serves as an immersive classroom for the community and public to teach empathy, animal welfare, and the importance of our shared environment.
  • Implements evidence-based enrichment protocols designed to meet the cognitive and physical needs of animals, setting a benchmark for sanctuary-scale animal welfare.
  • Safeguards the 10+ acre campus through chemical-free land management and ensures the sanctuary serves as a permanent green lung for the Bucks County community.

4. Education and One Health Center
  • Community workshops on humane education, pet care, training, etc.
  • Teen and adult programs in veterinary medicine.
  • One Health education programs on animal welfare and emergency preparedness.
  • Hands-on learning barns, training rooms, and outdoor learning spaces.
  • Children’s educational programs.
    • Topics such as animal care and welfare, One Health, and agriculture.
    • Introductory veterinary medicine and One Health classes for students.
    • School partnerships, field trips, and STEM-based youth curricula.
    • Summer camps and youth programs.
